Here we sit down with our very own SEO guru, Sam Winn. From keyword strategies to on-site SEO implementation, he is our go to guy. Find out what makes him tic and how he got started in the digital marketing world. 

Q: When did your passion for SEO begin?

A: I’ve always been entrepreneurial minded, and really developed a knack for marketing and consumer behavior in college. The opportunities that the Internet has provided my generation is unbelievable, and has completely uprooted the way we live, work and learn. The Internet is a complex space.  But like most man-made things, there is a structure to it, and rules it follows in order to operate.  SEO is such a misused buzzword today.  But to me, it is a complex and ever-changing protocol that enables creative and ambitious business owners to succeed in an only increasingly competitive, online marketplace.  My passion for SEO lies in the fact that I’m not quite sure I know what I want to do when I grow up (whenever it is that happens) but I know when I do, SEO will be valuable and versatile tool to reach for in my toolbox.


Q: What were you up to before working at AdVision?

A: Prior to working with AdVision I was working for Indeed.com, selling online recruitment advertising that followed a similar pay-per-click model as Google and other search engines.  From there I took a small hiatus, teaching snowboarding in Vail and freelancing for about 6 months – ensuring I arrived in Colorado, and at AdVision, in style.


Q: Do you have any advice for people wanting to break into the SEO field?

A: Although the SEO field is pretty competitive, beneath the swords of competition is a great community of SEOs.  At the end of the day, there is so much speculation in our industry around trial and error testing, that we’re all in this together.  Tap into this community, and learn from the seasoned vets!  Like our elders, they too are the wisest.


Q: What is your favorite thing about working at AdVision?

A: Monday mornings. Yup, never in my life would I have ever imagined showing up to work on a Monday morning and not dread being there.  Beyond that, I’m not just okay with coming to work, I love it! AdVision is full of young, brilliant and ambitious pioneers!  AdVision invests in their employees’ personal development knowing that it will not only translate into the development of the company, but also build our camaraderie and passion to succeed as a business.
